The Mindscape of Alan Moore

Alan Moore, originally uploaded by Kradlum.

I got my hands on a copy of the film The Mindscape of Alan Moore earlier this year but have been running flat chat since then so haven’t had a chance to watch it. I watched it last night and I’m sorry I put it off for so long.

The film is pretty much just Alan Moore talking and presenting really really interesting concepts and beliefs which give you an insight into where from and why, he writes what he writes. After watching this film I wanted to re-read all my Alan Moore comics, and then go and buy all the ones I don’t own.

From the film synopsis:

ALAN MOORE -writer, artist and performer- is the world’s most critically acclaimed and widely admired creator of comic books and graphic novels.

In The Mindscape of Alan Moore we see a portrait of the artist as contemporary shaman, someone with the power to transform consciousness by means of manipulating language, symbols and images.

The film leads the audience through Moore’s world with the writer himself as guide, beginning with his childhood background, following the evolution of his career as he transformed the comics medium, through to his immersion in a magical worldview where science, spirituality and society are part of the same universe.

Here’s the trailer.

While Jake Gyllenhaal isn’t the ideal person to be playing the prince because, well, he’s not Persian. It could be worse, they could have picked Keanu. The leading lady who is apparently meant to be an exotic princess is not really very exotic looking. They should have picked one of the plethora of stunning Bollywood actresses to fill the role.

A bad omen.

Keanu Reeves as Spike? They’d be better off hiring someone to hide behind a life-size cardboard cutout of the cartoon Spike and move it around whenever he’s on camera.

Harsh but fair, or a little too harsh? All I know is that Keanu should not play Spike…and I think that if they gave this project to Christopher Nolan it would be most non-heinous.
